FAQs

  • To put things simply, I believe in yes and no.

By clearly communicating to your dog what is appropriate behavior and what is not, we’re able to address problem behaviors effectively and in a timely manner.

You’ll hear me say this time and time again - every dog is different and no dog is a robot. Keeping my toolbox open allows me to tailor training to the specific needs of you and your dog.

  • I like to do a full assessment of your dog to ensure a true understanding of your goals - for your dog and yourself. Training is not a one size fits all solution so tailoring a training program to your specific needs is so important!

An initial no-cost, no-obligation consultation serves as an opportunity for me to meet with your family (including your dog!) to gain insight into your specific situation.
After this evaluation, I will send you a quote for the training program I think will work best for you, tailored to your training goals.

I offer session by session payments, or multi-session packages at a discounted rate. Please see each service’s individual page on my website for more info on pricing!

    * Breed Consultation / Adoption Guidance

  • This is something we can come up with after an initial no-cost consultation. I wish there was a simpler answer to this question, but it all depends on your situation and individual training goals!

  • Including but not limited to

    • Anxiety

    • Confidence building

    • Crate training

    • Destructive chewing

    • Excessive barking

    • Fearfulness

    • House training

    • Jumping

    • Leash pulling

    • Nipping

    • Obedience

    • Place training

    • Reactivity

    • Resource guarding

    • Rough play

    • Separation anxiety

    and truly so much more.

During your initial consultation we can discuss any behaviors you’ve noticed so we can focus in on them directly in-session.

  • We can 100% add obedience commands into your training program, however my focus is functional training that will benefit you in real life moments! I want to help your dog fit into your life better, whatever that looks like for you.

Most people aren’t in need of a competition-level heel in everyday life (but hey, if that’s your goal we can definitely make it happen!). I’m all about focusing in on specific training goals and behavior modification beyond just sit, stay, and down.

In our initial consultation we can figure out how we can best user our time together to benefit your day-to-day life with your dog. In other words — real life training for real life moments.

  • All shapes, sizes, and breeds are welcome! No restrictions.

  • Never.

Old dogs can definitely learn new tricks, and no dog is too far gone. Improvements can always be made depending on your level of commitment.

  • Every dog and situation is unqiue, so different tools may be required depending on factors such as temperament and owner skill level. Because of this, my toolbox is open. I strive to use positive reinforcement and reward based training as a starting point as much as possible.

We may choose to use nothing but a slip-leash or incorporate e-collar training into your program depending on your comfort zone. Let’s work together to figure out what will work best for you and your dog based on your personal training goals!

  • E-collars provide clear communication to your dog without human emotion getting in the way. Whether we are letting them know a certain behavior is unacceptable and teaching them what we want them to do instead, or are gently layering onto commands to make for reliable off-leash obedience — e-collars are one of the most effective ways to communicate to your dog.

  • I haven’t found this to be the case.

I exclusively use E-Collar Technologies Mini Educator, which is not a shock collar. The Mini Educator uses ‘blunt stimulation’ - a wide pulse stimulation providing a muscle reflex response, rather than a jerking response found in narrow pulse stimulation systems. This is similar to a medical tens-unit that would be used on you at a physical therapist or chiropractor!

This stimulation is humane and effective without causing undue discomfort to your dog.

The Mini-Educator also has 100 levels which allows us to be extremely precise. In my experience, many dogs respond to levels between 4-12 (for reference, I can’t feel the stimulation on my hand until about level 15!).

  • No worries, we can definitely work within your comfort zone! However, we may not be able to reach your specific goals without the use of certain tools.

If you have more questions about e-collars and why I use them in training and with my personal dogs, feel free to reach out!

  • Anyone who interacts with the dog on a daily basis. If you have other pets in the home, this is something we will discuss prior to your first session.

  • I recommend all dogs in the household receive training to some degree, even if one is “the problem dog”. Whether that training is done on your own time and we only work with one dog, or if you book sessions for all dogs in the household is up to you!

Training all dogs in the household will ensure they are all held to the same standard, and will make it easier to maintain training.
